Buying used should not feel like a gamble. Nissan's Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program exists to take the guesswork out -- manufacturer-backed warranty, a real inspection done by Nissan-trained technicians, and financing built around used pricing. Here's how the program works, what's covered, what's not, and how to tell if a CPO Nissan is the right move for you.
Walk into any used-vehicle lot in Saskatchewan and you'll see "certified" stickers everywhere. The word gets used loosely. Nissan Certified Pre-Owned is different -- it's a defined Nissan Canada program with published standards, a published inspection checklist, and a manufacturer-backed warranty that follows the vehicle no matter where you drive it in Canada.
For a Nissan to qualify as CPO, three things have to happen. First, it has to meet the eligibility rules: under six model years old, under 120,000 km, clean title, no open recalls, and no significant damage history. Second, it has to pass a 169-point inspection done by Nissan-trained technicians using the official Nissan Canada CPO checklist. Third, it has to be reconditioned to Nissan's CPO standard -- that includes fresh fluids, brake work if needed, tire condition checks, and any repair Nissan flags during the inspection.
If any of those three steps fail, the vehicle does not get certified. We can still sell it as a regular pre-owned Nissan or trade it on the wholesale market -- but it doesn't wear the CPO badge and it doesn't get the CPO warranty.
The full checklist is published by Nissan Canada and we'll happily walk you through it on the lot. The categories cover the systems that actually fail on used vehicles in our climate:
Engine condition (cold start, idle, oil pressure, coolant temperature, leak checks), transmission behaviour under load, transfer case and AWD function on AWD models, exhaust system integrity, motor mounts, and a full cold-start performance check -- relevant because most CPO Nissans on our lot have already lived through at least one Saskatchewan winter.
Strut and shock condition, ball joints, tie rods, control arms, sway bar links, wheel bearings, brake condition (pad thickness, rotor wear, parking brake function), suspension geometry, alignment check, and a road test focused on noises and pull. These are the systems Saskatchewan winters and grid roads wear out first.
Battery load test, charging system, all interior and exterior lighting, infotainment system function, navigation and Bluetooth pairing, remote start and key fob function, all driver-assist features (forward collision, blind spot, rear cross-traffic, ProPILOT Assist if equipped), and a check that all warning lights cycle correctly on key-on and clear by the time the engine settles.
Heater output (this matters in our climate), AC performance, heated seat function front and rear, heated steering wheel, defrost performance, sunroof operation, and a cabin-air filter condition check.
Paint condition (with a paint-thickness gauge to identify any prior bodywork), glass condition, panel alignment, undercarriage corrosion check, and a tire inspection that records remaining tread depth and notes any uneven wear that would suggest an alignment issue.
A real road test -- not a parking-lot lap. Highway speeds, hard braking, cold-engine behaviour, transmission shifts under load, AWD engagement on a low-traction surface where possible, steering feel, and any noises that show up only when the vehicle is warm.
This is the part that separates CPO from regular pre-owned. The warranty has two layers and both are backed by Nissan Canada, not by Moose Jaw Nissan alone. That matters -- you can take a CPO Nissan to any Nissan dealer in Canada for warranty service.
From the vehicle's original in-service date, not from when you take delivery. The powertrain coverage protects the engine, transmission, and drive components (including the AWD system on AWD models). For a 3-year-old Rogue you buy from us today, you'd typically have about 3 years and 60,000--80,000 km of remaining powertrain coverage depending on the specific vehicle.
From the date you take delivery, with a $100 deductible per visit. This covers most of the non-powertrain components -- sensors, infotainment, body control modules, AC system, etc. It's a shorter window than the powertrain warranty but it does what you actually want a comprehensive warranty to do: catch any sensor or electronic issue that takes a few months to show up.
Towing, lockout service, jump-starts, flat-tire change, and fuel delivery. Available across Canada and the continental U.S. -- relevant if you're a Moose Jaw customer who travels south for winter or hauls a trailer to Saskatoon, Calgary, or further.
We'll always be straight about this. Normal wear items aren't covered under CPO -- that means tires, brake pads and rotors, wiper blades, light bulbs, exterior trim, interior wear, glass damage, and damage from collisions or improper maintenance. Battery is covered separately under its own Nissan Canada warranty, which usually overlaps the CPO comprehensive window.
Every CPO Nissan comes with the following at no additional cost -- they're rolled into the certification:
Here's the financial argument we don't make often enough. Nissan Canada Finance offers special interest rates on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles that are typically significantly lower than what you'd get financing a regular used vehicle through a bank or a non-CPO dealer arrangement.
The math: on a $30,000 vehicle financed over 72 months, the difference between a bank used-car rate and a CPO promotional rate can be $40--$80 per month -- easily $3,000--$5,000 over the life of the loan. That's often more than the price premium between the CPO version and the regular pre-owned version of the same vehicle.
In other words: the CPO badge frequently pays for itself through financing alone, before you've even used the warranty or the exchange privilege.
Specific rates change month to month -- Nissan Canada runs CPO finance promotions in roughly the same cadence as new-vehicle promotions. Call us at 306-691-0016 or come in for current rates. We're happy to do a side-by-side payment comparison between CPO and regular pre-owned on the same vehicle so you can see the difference in real dollars.
The full Nissan Canada lineup is eligible if the vehicle meets the age and mileage criteria. In practice, here's what we see most often on our CPO lot:
| Model | What CPO buyers usually want |
|---|---|
| Rogue | Volume seller -- standard Intelligent AWD on all 2021+ Canadian trims. Strong CPO inventory because so many were sold new through this dealership. |
| Kicks | Compact, fuel-efficient, lower entry price. AWD became available in the 2025 redesign, so older CPO Kicks units are typically FWD. |
| Pathfinder | 3-row family hauler with V6 and standard 4WD on Canadian trims. Strong CPO option for families upgrading from a sedan. |
| Murano | Luxury-leaning two-row crossover. CPO Murano is one of the best value plays in the lineup because the model depreciates faster than its build quality suggests. |
| Frontier | Midsize truck -- V6 with 4WD. CPO Frontiers move quickly when we get them. |
| Sentra / Altima | Reliable commuter sedans. CPO Altima with AWD is genuinely useful for Saskatchewan winters and a meaningful step below the price of a Rogue. |
| LEAF | All-electric. CPO LEAF includes its specific EV battery warranty in addition to CPO coverage. Less common on our lot but worth a conversation if you're EV-curious. |
We sell both. We're not going to pretend our regular pre-owned inventory is bad -- it isn't. Every used vehicle we sell goes through a safety inspection and is reconditioned before it hits the lot.
Here's a straight comparison so you can decide:
| Nissan CPO | Regular Pre-Owned | |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible vehicles | Nissan only, under 6 years / 120,000 km, clean history | Any make, any model, any age within reason |
| Inspection | 169-point Nissan-trained certification | Provincial safety inspection + dealer reconditioning |
| Powertrain warranty | 72 months / 120,000 km from original in-service date | Varies -- sometimes a limited dealer warranty, sometimes as-is |
| Roadside assistance | Included, 24/7 | Not included |
| Exchange privilege | 10 days / 1,500 km | Not included |
| Financing rate | Nissan Canada CPO promotional rates available | Standard bank or used-vehicle financing |
| Price | Typically $1,500--$3,000 more than the regular version of the same vehicle | Lower entry price |
The honest take: if you're buying a Nissan that's under 6 years old and you plan to keep it for more than a couple of years, CPO usually wins on total cost of ownership once you factor in financing rate and warranty value. If you're buying something older, higher-km, or non-Nissan, regular pre-owned is the right path -- and our regular pre-owned inventory is still a solid choice with a real safety inspection behind it.
Our certified pre-owned lot turns over fast -- most CPO vehicles sell within two to three weeks. If you see something on the listing today, call ahead before you drive in: 306-691-0016. We'll hold it for you to look at and have the CarProof and inspection report printed when you arrive.
Browse CPO inventory →The Nissan Certified Pre-Owned warranty has two parts. The powertrain warranty covers the engine, transmission, and drive components for 72 months or 120,000 km, measured from the vehicle's original in-service date. The comprehensive warranty covers most non-powertrain components (sensors, infotainment, AC system, body control modules) for 6 months or 10,000 km from your delivery date, with a $100 deductible per visit. Both warranties are backed by Nissan Canada and honoured at any Nissan dealer across Canada. Roadside assistance is included for the duration of the powertrain coverage.
A regular used Nissan goes through a provincial safety inspection and dealer reconditioning. A Certified Pre-Owned Nissan goes through a 169-point inspection done by Nissan-trained technicians and earns a manufacturer-backed warranty from Nissan Canada -- 72 months / 120,000 km on the powertrain, 6 months / 10,000 km comprehensive, plus 24/7 roadside assistance, a 10-day exchange privilege, and access to Nissan Canada CPO financing rates. The CPO version typically costs $1,500 to $3,000 more, but the financing rate and warranty value often more than offset that on a multi-year ownership.
A Nissan qualifies for the full Certified Pre-Owned program if it is under six model years old and has fewer than 120,000 km on the odometer. It also needs a clean title, no open safety recalls, and no significant damage history. Older or higher-km Nissans may qualify for the lighter Certified Select tier, which carries a shorter warranty but still includes a Nissan-trained inspection. Ask us about a specific vehicle and we can confirm which tier it qualifies for.
The CPO powertrain warranty is measured from the vehicle's original in-service date -- the day it was first registered and put on the road as a new vehicle -- not from the day you buy it as a CPO. For example, if you buy a 2022 Rogue today in 2026 and that Rogue was first registered in May 2022, you have about two years of remaining CPO powertrain warranty (May 2022 + 72 months = May 2028). We will always show you the original in-service date and the remaining warranty period in writing before you sign anything.
Yes -- CPO vehicles qualify for Nissan Canada Finance's special used-vehicle interest rates, which are typically meaningfully lower than what banks offer on regular used-vehicle financing. The rate varies by month and by term length, but on a typical CPO Rogue or Pathfinder it often saves $40 to $80 per month versus a standard bank used-car loan. Over 72 months that's $3,000 to $5,000 -- often more than the price difference between a CPO Nissan and the equivalent regular used vehicle. Call us for current rates and we'll do a side-by-side comparison in real dollars.
Every Nissan Certified Pre-Owned purchase comes with a 10-day or 1,500 km exchange privilege (whichever comes first). If the vehicle isn't the right fit, bring it back to Moose Jaw Nissan and exchange it for another vehicle on our lot of equal or greater value. There's no rebooking fee and no questions about why. We'd rather you drive away in the right vehicle than feel stuck with the wrong one.
Yes. The CPO warranty is backed by Nissan Canada, not just by Moose Jaw Nissan, so it's honoured at every Nissan dealership across Canada. If you live in Moose Jaw and travel to Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, or anywhere else, warranty service is available wherever you are. We're obviously happy to be your service home, but you're never locked into us by the CPO program.
Every CPO inspection includes a battery load test, a heater output check, a defrost test, AWD function check on AWD models, and a cabin-air filter inspection. We also check that the block heater cord is intact (most of our CPO Nissans have lived a Saskatchewan winter and we know what to look for). Winter tires aren't included in CPO certification -- but we can quote you a winter tire and rim package at the time of purchase. Ask about it during the test drive.
